Karma – Skateboard Deck Review – Kizla

An overview of Karma Skateboards along with a 'Kizla' deck review

Dust off those party hats, dig out the candles and prepare to sing at the top of your lungs, as Karma Skateboards turns 15 this year!

The company, founded by Adam Wood of iFive Distribution in February 2002, has come a long way since its inception, and currently sponsors the likes of Lloyd McLeggon, Tom Shimmin, Ross Zajac, Channon Wallace and Liam Courtney, with Jamie ‘OG’ Hewitt and Pete Case firmly on the flow roster.

Karma are best known for their debut VHS release, the mighty ‘Shit On The Lens’, which was filmed and edited by Chris ‘Avi’ Averton and unleashed on the unsuspecting world back in 2003. At that point, the team included the Northwestern pairing of Avi and Eddie Belvedere, Milton Keynes locals Sean Smith, Joe Nobes and Mark Calipe, with Amir Williams holding it down for Brighton.

The ‘Kizla’ graphic you see before you is a special 15th anniversary reissue of the very first Rizla inspired Karma deck, released in white and also blue to replicate the original drop, though all new black and pink colourway boards are also available in different sizes. Karma’s 15th anniversary logo is also printed on the top ply of each board, so if you fancy cutting a strip out of your griptape, you can have a dope little celebratory crest staring back at you.

This particular 8” number comes on a traditional popsicle shaped deck, though the nose is fairly sizable, meaning you’ve more space for that front foot when banging out your nollie trick repertoire, and more surface area to plant onto the ledge when locking into those Wu Welsh inspired noseslides.
