Bobshirt Jason Dill Interview for Transworld

"I designed a motherfucking woman's Prada shoe, what the fuck was I thinking? I was on drugs!""

Bobshirt’s Jason Dill Interview sees them continue their long running series of props-led interviews with various skateboarding luminaries by catching up with the former Alien Workshop pro, dedicated follower of fashion and one half of the Fucking Awesome Entertainment management team.

Dill first appeared in the Blockhead Skateboards video ‘Recycled Rubbish‘, skating to Ned’s Atomic Dustbin before a brief stint as part of the Black Label youth programme with Gino Iannucci. Footage in the legendary Spitfire Wheels Video was followed by his entry to the Steve Rocco camp via Natas’ 101 Skateboards and a full part in Snuff as well as footage in the 101 sections from skateboard video benchmarks 20 Shot Sequence and Trilogy. A long serving stint with the Alien Workshop and Habitat camp at their peak saw him with sections in Photosynthesis, Mosaic and Mind Field before the general mass exodus saw him and Anthony Van Engelen venturing out on their own to start Fucking Awesome and Hockey. In other words, he’s been there, done that and got a t-shirt which was lost, but somehow dug up from the depths for this interview years later – alongside boards, VHS tapes, old mags and everything else needed to jog the memory when things get hazy. Add in some back up from long term collaborator Bill Strobeck and you have a recipe for an in depth look into an important facet of skateboarding’s evolution, made all the more entertaining by Dill’s twitchily nervous comedic interludes. Worth watching for, if nothing else, the heinous 90s skate shoe shapes…

“Back in my day, we had to churn our own plastic to make our wheels.”
