Scott Johnston gets Chrome Ball’d

The Chrome Ball Incident with Scott Johnston

The latest installment of Chops’ (AKA Eric Swisher) skateboarding archivist’s dreamland, The Chrome Ball Incident, is up and as always, it’s a banger.
This time around Chops sits down with Maryland native, one-time Mad Circle and DC pro and most recently Chocolate Skateboards rider, Scott Johnston.
If you follow Chromeball then you’ll know what to expect: scans from mags generally long-gone, questions from one of the deepest geeks in the game and the full story on the after-life of some of the most celebrated skaters of their time.
This one is pretty inspiring with Scott talking about his early life as a sponsored skate for Think and Venture, growing up skating Pulaski with the likes of Pepe Martinez, then taking the plunge and moving to SF to join Mad Circle, Justin Girard’s brand under the Giant umbrella, before ultimately ending up on Chocolate Skateboards for the remainder of his pro career.

Scan lifted from the excellent Vert is Dead blog. Go peep for more history.

As an additional extra, you can find below a selection of some of Scott’s most celebrated video appearances, including the 411 VM Issue 3 Profile that spawned the Chris ‘Dune’ Pastras comment that still haunts him to this day.
Straight forward style and no nonsense skateboarding from a dude with an impeccable back catalogue and enough honour to walk away from pro skating without milking it for a second.
If you enjoyed this one and aren’t already following The Chrome Ball Incident, go bookmark Chops page and prepare yourselves for an absolute treasure trove of archived skateboarding history from one of the best. All hail the geeks!
