Atlantic Drift episode 7 – Las Vegas

Spot brutality in Bat Country

Thrasher Magazine presents Atlantic Drift Episode 7, which sees Jacob Harris and the crew exploring the gaudy, neon lit streets of Las Vegas. Managing to avoid the obvious pitfalls of Hunter S. Thompson’s best known muse (besides Wild Turkey), pushing hell for leather into the twisted depths of Bat Country with an edit full of hippy jumps, slappy grinds, street lurkers and a whole galaxy of multi-coloured manny pads, handrails, street transitions, crusty bank to walls and ditches…also a few pairs of crap sunglasses, a roof kickflip and a couple of red painted curbs. Not that they needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious spot or trick collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can…

Sylvain Tognelli, Jesse Alba, Kyron Davis, Mike Arnold, Remy Taveira, Nick Michel, Casper Brooker, Chris Jones, Tom Knox and Frankie Decker make up the squad for this round of Atlantic Drifting, offering up a wide range of talents to ensure that every spot in their path was covered in some way and also offering a few addendums to their iconic hippy jump episode. Yeah I’m calling it iconic, and how often do you get to use that term to describe a single episode of an internet skateboarding series? That’s why an edit from the lens and mind of Jake should always be watched. Leonard Cohen on the soundtrack, the instantly recognisable architectural oddities and neon slogans of Sin City and some of our favourite skateboarders – this one, as with previous entries, is strictly un-fuckable-with! Within the belly of the incredibly transient, throwaway beast that is web based skateboard media, the Atlantic Drift series is the perfect example of how that format can be turned into something unique and exciting. Here’s hoping that, when the series is complete, it gets the DVD release it so clearly deserves!
