When thinking of a list of great music-skateboarding pairings, a few come to mind. Guy skating to Band of Horses in Fully Flared and Jerry skating to Cass McCombs in Bag of Suck are two favorites of ours, but you cannot make a list without including Jake Johnson skating to “My Girls” by Animal Collective.
We’ve all seen it and sat with the same shit-eating grin because of it, and we’ve all also likely deep-dived Animal Collective to hear the songs that filled the space between “My Girls” and “In The Flowers”, the song Jason Dill skated to off the same album.
For some, the album Merriweather Post Pavilion marked forever fandom, while for others, a record eagerly bought now collecting dust as a knickknack marking better times.
Wherever you sit on the spectrum, there’s no denying Animal Collective sits at an important chair in skate music history, so when we heard about their latest album “Isn’t It Now?” we used the opportunity to hit them up and talk skating.
